D-Day Normandy, France
June 6 1944
allied invasion of western Europe
150,000 troops, 5,000 vehicles
off of french coast
Yalta Conference:
Allied powers meeting: United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union
addressing... Germany's future after the defeat, the fate of liberated nations (Poland)
set stage for the cold war and communism
divide Germany into several zones
Marshall Plan:
economic assistance plan for the distressed Europe
U.S. funded the program but was designed by European nations
Truman hoped the assistance would help stabilize the western Europe's governments
13 billion in aid
rebuilding industry and transportation lines
every participating country had recovered with the exception of western Germany
I know France did eventually get invaded by Germany, nut how long were they able to hold out against them?
The French Force was not as strong…secure as they portrayed to the public?
More than half of the Jews had to leave their homeland, just because of their religion
In the video from homework the children also had to travel secretly without their parents to other countries for safety.
Why didn't Britian and France declare war and Germany after they invaded Czechoslovakia? Why Poland?
Hitler should have been more subtle about his expanision. Did he want or expect a world war? Is that what he wanted?
Had the United Nations not allowed Germany to build up their air force/military this Battle would have been an easy win or may not have occurred at all...silly rabbits
Why would Hitler break the pact and create another enemy? That doesn't seem smart. The Soviets were simply going to stay out of the Germans business...
This assistance must have led the Europeans to favor and support the U.S

Use the map in your text p. 439 to chronicle German aggression. Where did the Nazis go first and what were the results?
Make a chronology. Chronology: 1. Armed force into Rhineland (area bordering France) (Violated Treaty of Versailles) 2. Demanding annexation of Austria ( uniting German speaking countries) 3. Threatening Czech government, Czechs put up their defenses 4. Italy and Japan join Germany in the Axis powers 5. Italy and Germany alliance with Spain 6. Nazi- Soviet non-aggression pact Analysis:
The Nazi's began making moves toward war. They established alliances and pacts between countries. However, as they pushed toward the Czechs they created enemies and their actions were put before the united nations. Unfortunately, the united nations sought peace, and in doing so ignored Germany's actions. Nevertheless, their actions were further monitored and now becoming a growing concern.

Summary – What is the artist inferring?
The author portrays Hitler and Stalin as newly married couple. The Nazi’s and Soviet established the nonaggression pact, to keep the peace in their relationship. Since the British and French did not appear willing to defend the Soviets, the agreement between the Nazis and Soviets would keep the Soviets out of war without each other, and in doing so the Soviets land would not be threatened by the Germans. However, like most relationships (marriages in this) they end in a divorce. The author is inferring that the pact or bond between the Nazi’s and Soviets would not make it through "honeymoon”, or in other words would not last very long.

US defends China to protect their resources, however if China had not been needed by the US, would they have helped them…if the resources weren’t at risk?
Japanese were cruel in war, perhaps the reason, the US was so willing to drop the bomb on them…no mercy in war
Like Top Gun!
Like suicide bombings?
Was the battleship game derived from WW2 fleet battles?
This is one of the most memorable American symbols/icons in my opinion
What is the controversy over?
After those bombings I wouldn’t want nuclear battles either
Japan should have surrendered after the 1st bomb, I mean, 70-80 thousand innocent people were killed
Grave of the Fire Flies is a tragic animation film, on the lives of a two young siblings during World War 2 in Japan. After the death of the children’s mother and unknown whereabouts of their father, the children were left orphaned. The Children’s relatives treated them cruelly, leaving the two to fend for themselves, homeless and without food or care. Through these tragic events in the older brother does his best to care for his young sister. After living off of slight stolen meals, their lack of nutrition takes a toll on their health. Despite, the brother’s attempt to care for his sister, she becomes ill from malnutrition and dysentery. With rations on food and very few resources, the siblings have no place to go and no options but to fend for themselves. The film is moving and depicts realistic events in a historical animation film. From the information on the bombings in Japan to the rations, the film accurately demonstrates the quality of life in Japan during WWII. Due to the films touching impact and historical accuracy, I rate the film with an A. Though the film is a cartoon, the film also includes information pertaining to Japan’s surrenders and the state of the economy during the war which further makes the film realistic. The film is a true tear jerker and I would recommend it to multiple audiences.
